Luscious Lovely Litchfield - a Tale of Termite Nests and Waterfalls

Hello dear blogsters,

Well here I am at the end of another lovely, hot day ready to share our adventures with you.

Today we awoke to a lovely, clear, warm morning. After breakfast we headed off to explore some of Litchfield National Park. Our first stop was at the magnetic termite mounds. These termite mounds are built on a north/south axis so that the termites can make the most of the weather (sort of a solar heating system for their home). Mum was pleased to see new walkways at this spot - as this is where she fell and hurt her knee badly 10 years ago. Dad and I offered to walk either side of her holding her arms so she wouldn't fall again - but I think she thought it made her look like a little old lady - she certainly didn't seem to want our help!

After his grumbling yesterday, I made sure that Paddy got out to look at the termite mounds- he thought they were pretty cool too.
We drove on from there and stopped in to explore Florance Falls. These falls were stunning from the lookout at the top - and oh, so cool and refreshing to swim in at the bottom. We thought we handled the 150 steps down magnificently well..... and the 150 steps up almost magnificently well.
We left the falls and stopped in at a swamp for lunch (as you do!) Mum had made delicious ham and salad battards...... they soon filled an empty spot.

After lunch we drove on to have a look at Wangi Falls. They are not open for swimming yet (too early after the wet season - the Parks people haven't had a chance to clear the crocs out and make sure it is safe..... and there is still a bit much water coming over the falls for it to be really safe). We did enjoy the view from the platform - however the walk to the top of the falls was also closed as they haven't been able to repair flood damage from the last wet season.
After all of this activity, we headed back to camp for a quick swim in the pool and shower. It is pretty humid and sticky and water seems the best place to be most of the time!

Tomorrow we will go on to explore more of the Litchfield National Park.

I have made a couple of changes to the blog to make it more accessible - you can now email me directly by clicking on the little email symbol below each day's entry. You can also make comments more easily by just clicking on the word "comments" under the blog - you shouldn't have to sign in or anything.

Hi to Sheree.... hope your feet aren't too wet at home. Hi to Beffle - great to talk to you yesterday! Hi to Lachlan - only a couple of days until I see you! Hi to Margaret, see you in a day or so....And Hi to Nic and Bron - wish you were still here.

Hey all you "on wallaby"

How envious are we of the warm weather you are having. I have just spent the long weekend up in the high country North of Licola. I went with a group of friends, think there was about 23 people, we stayed in one of the local catholic college's school camp. Two pretty good huts, plenty of food and drink. We left Saturday morning, had a bit of a look around on the way up, did some good 4WDriving Sunday, and home today. Was quite a nice 'FROST' yesterday...I'm sure you can't remember what that looks like.

I haven't downloaded my photos yet, will send some when I do.

Gotta go, organise tea.

Lots of love Nicola

PS it is still asking me for a login etc??????
