Anyway, this morning we got up before the sun and set off on our big day's driving. We had about 550 km to drive between Esperance and Denmark (just East of Albany). We drove through some magnificent countryside - the plant life was extraordinary. We saw bright red balls of flower on the hakea bushes, yellow wattle, bright orange bottle brush, creamy banksia and wild kangaroo paw amongst others. The birdlife was also a feature - with a range of parrots and woodland birds in abundance. Mum and I were kept busy identifying them in my bird book and listing them all.
We arrived at the beautiful Denmark just after 4 o'clock and have booked into a lovely caravan park at the river mouth. There are waterbirds everywhere, beautiful black swans feeding and pelicans gliding up and down the still water. Behind us is a tall stand of trees and there is evidence that kangaroos frequent this camp ground. We will camp here for the next three nights whilst we explore the area.
Finally, I think I will make an occasional section in my blog for the incredible words of wisdom which sometimes pour forth from Mum. So here is the first....
Mum's Pearls of Wisdom
"You know, if it wasn't for these clouds, it would be quite sunny today!"
Duh!
