We had a magnificent night, camped out in the middle of nowhere. The silence at night roared!!! Not a sound.... from humans or animals. It was extraordinary! I woke up at about 5 and watched the stars from my swag, and then got up to watch the sun rise - magnificent!
I did get some text messages and a picture from Angelle of Lachlan's band performing last night. I was so thrilled to hear the night was a success - the band was brilliant (according to Angelle) and the audience a good size and appreciative. I am so proud of Lachlan and his music!
We shared breakfast with three very friendly magpies. The hopped up onto the table and chortled and chattered to us whilst we ate. Mum made sure they got some porridge and toast scraps before we left.
We drove out at about 8.30 in the morning and headed into Peterborough where we picked up some fuel.
We drove on to Orroroo and stopped to have a look at the giant gum tree. It was huge, very healthy and, according to the sign, over 500 years old. We stopped here for some Morning Tea.
I also used the chance to change my socks - I figured that I hadn't taken them off since we left Dorrigo (apart from for a shower at Nyngan) and it was probably time to change them. Oh and the fact Mum was getting reluctant to get into the car because of the smell might have encouraged me to make a change. The socks were rather stiff when I took them off, I will admit.
At lunch time we stopped at the Willmington Pub. We met up with Uncle John here, he will join us for the rest of the trip. We also met up with friends of Mum and Dad and Uncle John's, Liz and Spaff and they shared lunch with us at the pub. It was an interesting meal. The menu board boasted just one dish, battered garfish. But when we asked they said they could only offer us toasted sangas - so that's what we had.
We drove on through the hills and wound our way through until confronted by the view of the very tip of the Spencer Gulf (if you don't know where that is, look at the coast of SA on a map - its the great big chunk cut out of the coast line).
We have pulled into a campground on a station called Spears Creek. The campground is lovely - big gum trees and some green grass along a creek bed. We have set up and should have a nice night here. There is a fair bit of interest in Uncle John's Tvan - it's a really interesting concept for a caravan and we will be interested to see how it goes - so far so good according to Uncle John.
